The gallery was founded in 1996 by the art historian Joerk Rothamel. It represents established artists as well as emerging ones. Rothamel publishes numerous catalogues and constantly collaborates with leading museums.

Since September 2005, the Gallery has established a presence in Frankfurt am Main.
