Mohammed - Caricatures - Conflict
06.02.2006
From December 3, 2005 the Galerie Rothamel Erfurt presents the work of artist Moritz Götze.
Included in the exhibited works is the painting "Im Zimmer" 2004/2005, Öl auf Leinwand (oil on canvas), 200 x 300 cm. It depicts a group of Europeans in colonial dress who fight an invisible enemy. In the right-hand part of the image, Arabic script hovers above the ruins of western civilisation. The writing details the formula for Al-Napht, an explosive used in medieval sea battles.

As early as 1997, we have experienced with Götze a similar deja vu. The occasion of the events of September 11 reminds us of Götze's 1997 work "It's a new day" in which he painted a plane crashing into a tower building. On the table lies a Scandinavian newspaper, the Norwegian "Aftenposten"...
