The world of yesterday | the world of tomorrow
Views of a European

Gallery Rothamel Erfurt
January 12th to March 2nd, 2019

The new works by Harald Reiner Gratz (* 1962) arise from a journey of thought into the Golden Age of European Modernism, the time between Impressionism and the outbreak of the First World War. A retrospective look at this self-assured period of European high culture challenges the comparison with the present, in which some young Europeans doubt their identity so strongly that they are prepared to reveal it in exchange for ideologies or religions.

In dealing with such self-abandonment Gratz creates the progressive vision of a world of tomorrow, a powerful renaissance of European culture with its positive "concomitants" such as democracy, equality, freedom ... We encounter the art of Manet and Corinth,  image ideas of Liebermann, Schiele or Maurice Denis and Paul Cézanne. Harald Gratz presents his discourse in the form of a cultivated, powerful and inspired painting, which processes the fractures of the 20th century and points the way to a brighter world.

For the opening with the artist on Saturday, January 12th at 8 pm we cordially invite you and your friends to our gallery in Erfurt.
