Hjördis Baacke

Wald
29. November 2025 - 17. January 2026
Erfurt

We cordially invite you and your friends to the opening with the artist on Saturday, November 29th at 8 pm.

Hjördis Baacke's paintings depict forests. Realistic, with a particular focus on light, her canvases sometimes create a truly impressive effect. Every forest has its own character, a personality, and Baacke's forest paintings are, in effect, portraits.

Especially since the COVID-19 pandemic, the forest has once again become a place of refuge and longing. The new uncertainty and increasing sense of alienation in cities also contribute to this: Interest in this unique biotope is booming.

Human creative impulses urgently require a reconciliation with the natural systems that have balanced themselves over millions of years and that have brought us into being. Not in the sense of escapism, but rather a return to learning and observing. Forest paintings, which were considered obsolete for over a century, are now highly relevant again.

Hjördis Baacke (born 1980 in Leipzig) studied painting at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig (HGB) under Arno Rink and Neo Rauch. She wrote her diploma thesis in 2007 in the field of philosophy on the topic:

"The Forest as Promise" by Christoph Türcke. The artist has received numerous art prizes and awards. Hjördis Baacke lives in Leipzig and has a son.
