The veduta—the artistic depiction of urban landscapes—is one of the major genres of the visual arts. Among its renowned masters are Merian, Canaletto, Belotto, Guardi, Monet, and Hopper. Each of these great painters and printmakers has found his own approach to this fascinating subject. Merian focused on the greatest possible richness of detail, Canaletto on precision, Monet on atmospheric lighting, and Hopper on a sense of time.
 
Thitz introduces a new dimension: utopia. His art falls within the realm of Pop Art, and from there it’s not far to comics. Roy Lichtenstein is the best-known example of this. In twentieth-century comics, the future played an important role—think of artists like Jean Giraud (Moebius), Jack Kirby, or Hannes Hegen.
 
Thitz takes up these influences and incorporates them into his cityscapes, rich in figures and detail. He creates optimistic and vivid visions of a world of tomorrow that is peaceful, close to nature, cheerful, and deeply attuned to art. In our time of upheaval and crisis, he sends a positive message and creates rays of hope with extraordinary radiance.
