In mid-May 2020, the Dresden Albertinum opens a comprehensive retrospective on Ernst Barlach's 150th birthday, which is largely based on the inventory of the Ernst Barlach Haus. The anniversary project is an occasion for an East / West exchange: In return, the Albertinum borrows 60 works from its collection of art from the GDR. The presentation includes paintings and sculptures from the post-war period, "Socialist contemporary art" from the 1960s and 70s, and works by a younger generation of artists . There is a wide range of topics, styles and positions to be discovered - from the portrait of a worker to a pop art experiment, from factual to expressive, figurative to abstract, conformist to critical.How diverse and often ambiguous the visual worlds of East German art are in the West Little known even thirty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall. With works by 52 artists, the exhibition aims to contribute to broadening the view of the Eastern Kosmos. ÜBERSEE BOOK FROM ANNETTE SCHRÖTER

Annette Schröter cuts her pictures, works with the cutter, paper, sprays, colored acrylic glass and wallpaper scraps. Since 2015, Annette Schröter has made several trips to South and North America, including Buenos Aires, Montevideo, New York, Vancouver and Montreal. Her impressions, especially of everyday culture, architecture and vegetation, are reflected in an extensive group of paper cuts. The "silhouette", a technique that is particularly known from the 18th and 19th centuries and was often used by laypeople, deliberately serves as a contemporary artistic expression. Schröter not only explores the diverse and previously underestimated possibilities of this technology. In her work, she also questions content-related and artistic clichés that we associate with the term ÜBERSEE. This comes from a time when people - obeying existential hardship - left their homeland, but on the other hand it always stood for the unreachable distance and the exotic unknown as the goal of all desires - for 28 euros with us or at MMKoehn Verlag

Nguyen Xuan Huy will be shown in the exhibition “Waiting / Waiting” in Gera

From March 15 to April 26, works by the painter Nguyen Xuan Huy will be shown in the exhibition “Waiting / Waiting”. He comes from a Vietnamese family of artists. He was a brilliant draftsman as a teenager and went to Europe to study when he was seventeen. He masters oil painting with virtuosity and feels firmly connected to European traditions. Odysseus with the Sirens, Venus and Mars, Géricault, Boucher, Bosch or the Nabis - Nguyen deals with all these topics with meticulousness, knowledgeable parables and finesse. Nguyen Xuan Huy was born in 1976 in Hanoi. He studied at the Hanoi University of Architecture, at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Bordeaux, and in 2003 he received his painting diploma at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle. First come, first served. Art Karlsruhe shines with its sculpture spaces and has probably achieved more for this genre than any other art fair in the world. You will experience the most entertaining sculpture place with us this year: We are showing art pinball machines by Moritz Götze. It is about Martin Luther and his revenant Mick Jagger, Lady Hamilton and the sinking of the German Navy. Bring change for pinball and cards for the rest.

On February 8, Moritz Götze and Rüdiger Giebler will open a new exhibition in the Tharangambadi Museum in India as part of their “Grand Tour” project. The location is not chosen by chance, since in 1706 there has been a mission station in Tharangambadi, whose missionaries came from Halle an der Saale, the hometown of Götze and Giebler. Every year in July, the residents of Tharangambadi commemorate the arrival of the first Lutheran missionaries Bartholomäus Ziegenbalg (1682–1719) and Heinrich Plüschau (1677–1752) on July 9, 1706 with a parade through the city. After their arrival, Ziegenbalg and Plütschau sought contact with the local people with great interest. This was the beginning of a unique dialogue that continues to this day. The MM missionaries laid the foundation stone for the beginning of printing in India in Tharangambadi. In 2017 the Ziegenbalg House Museum was opened, in which Moritz Götze and Rüdiger Giebler are now exhibiting.
