Picture of time, Annette Schröter
Annette Schröter is a professor of painting at the HGB Leipzig - and one of the most influential personalities on the German art scene. your graduates act successfully on international stages and enrich the image of the "New Leipzig School" with surprising facets. As a remarkable, critical and tolerant teacher, Annette Schröter knows how to let her students speak their own language, specifically promote strengths and accept controversies. She is committed to paving the way for her pupils in the art scene. A tried and tested means are the master class exhibitions in German galleries, through which they made remarkable debuts possible.
Annette Schröter herself, a long-time successful painter, swapped her medium for the sophisticated technique of paper cutting more than a decade ago. What attracted her to this was the challenge of achieving the complicated effects of elaborate painting with reduced resources. The first thing that catches the eye is the format, which has grown to be monumental. Annette Schröter works with patterns and contours, spaces, textures and blurring. But it also shows the real strengths of the paper cut, the linear, the ornament.
One of her newest and most current works is the “Grosse Butzemann” from 2020, with the stately dimensions of 220 x 150 cm for a paper cut. With great enthusiasm for the provocative, it addresses the social customs of our time: the building up of enemy images, the fascination for the cryptic and the subversive (the shredder strips are already built in), the game with wickedness, masquerades and denunciation. Look for yourself.

Moritz Götze - Lebenszeichen
The past year and a half have been difficult for many artists - Moritz Götze, however, won the best of time and fell into a veritable creative frenzy. Numerous paintings, enamels and drawings were created. The recently published catalog "Lebenszeichen" documents the lavish oeuvre. The new works can be viewed in our Erfurt gallery from November 13th. You can secure three particularly attractive works in advance. They are "enamel ladies" of the youngest generation. All are devoted to the elementary and emotional topic of shoes.
Moritz Götze, "Masse", 2020, email, 123 x 48 cm, 4000 euros
"Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world", Marilyn Monroe is said to have said, And this saying has probably nowhere been interpreted better than by Moritz Götze. The "enamel ladies" are elaborate to capricious to manufacture, but with the right treatment of timeless durability and beauty. First, their silhouettes are cut from sheet steel, deburred and pretreated. After an immersion bath in the basic enamel color, they receive their first firing at around 800 degrees. The paint melts and covers the metal ground with a glass-like layer.
Moritz Götze, "He has the floor full of sculptures", 2020, enamel, 123 x 48 cm, 4000 euros
Now the artist can begin his actual work. The painting is applied in several layers, in between firing again and again at the appropriate temperature for the respective color. Corrections are almost impossible, the artist not only has to know exactly how he is painting, but also meticulously observe the technologically necessary sequence. The "enamel ladies" have a special charisma, they combine the suggestive power of painting with the direct effect of sculptures.

One of the most exciting positions in contemporary German painting is represented by a man born in Hanoi. His works are nothing less than the proposal for a new European art that overcomes the ideological aberrations of the 20th century and leaves the fetish of the avant-garde behind.
To an art that shows the way in a new enlightenment. For half a millennium - from the Renaissance to the Impressionists - European painting told stories, parables and legends. On the eve of the First World War, when Europe began to break up, the “avant-garde”, the artistic snapshot, took center stage, the shock, the emotional overwhelming. Narrative painting lost its meaning.
The longing for stories is back. The formal demands of the young audience are high - the flood of images and data from digitization sets standards. When “digital natives” encounter Nguyen's works, they are fascinated. “Painted everything? By hand?? How does that work ??? ”When young recipients turn to the content of his painting, they are surprised and captivated.
The stories are extraordinarily multi-faceted, go deep into art history and are brand new at the same time. Nguyen looks at the present from an Enlightenment perspective. Logical analyzes are more important to him than ideological standpoints. He often makes his statements in the form of mythological, philosophical or literary parables. This painting is a cultivated and acuensionslos.
Nguyen Xuan Huy was born in Hanoi in 1976. He studied at the Hanoi School of Architecture, at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Bordeaux, and in 2003 obtained his painting diploma from the HfKD Burg Giebichenstein in Halle. He lives and works in Berlin.
